The Shop on Main Street (also known as Obchod na korze) is a Slovak language film from Czechoslovakia which dealt with the subject of Aryanization. The movie was written by Ladislav Grosman, Jan Kadar and Elmar Klos. It was directed by Kadar and Klos. It stars Jozef Kroner as Tono Brtko and Ida Kaminska as Jewish widow Rozalie Lautmann.
The movie won the 1965 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (Oscar). The capricious Kaminska was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award and Kroner gives an impassioned performance that is unforgettable.
DVD includes film with Slovak and English subtitles, photogallery, filmography and several interviews with filmmakers which are without subtitles.
