There exist many folk song genres in a number of European cultures, possessing a key meaning for cognition of these cultures. Among song genres with particular significance for understanding of traditional culture in Slovakia there are travnice or hay making songs - lyrical women's songs seasonal works during the summer on mountainous meadows. Since the outset of the s collecting activity these songs were considered to be aesthetically valuable as well as specific component of the Slovak folk tradition, which, moreover, happened to be an inspirational source of domestic autonomous artistic creation.
The monograph about travnice is written by Slovak ethnomusicologist Hana Urbancova. The publication includes a comprehensive resume in English language. Some topics of resume:
