Slovenske spevy - Slovak Songs - up to now the most voluminous and the most important collection of Slovak folk songs was edited from the year 1880 in the isssues for nearly thirty years. They served for private as well for various pedagogical, aesthetic and scientific purposes, the minor social song books came into existence from selection of their songs, the songs of them became an unavoidable constituent of textbooks of musical education, they became an indispensable authority for Slovak and foreign musical and literal ethnography as well.

The second completed, revised and documented edition of Slovak Songs (from the beginning of the 70-ties of the 20th century) has been compiled according to corresponding manuscript materials and is made more complete by the help of those proprietes of the primary manuscript which were not used in the first edition of the collection and has documentary importance. This concerns various supplements which have the character of songs, date and notes.
